Not your typical 'tick and flick' training
Bullying, sexual harassment, discrimination and other harmful behaviours training is often boring, focuses on the legislation, gives you the definitions and tells workers not to do it.
You know the drill: talk to the person if you can, look at your workplace policy, talk to your manager or report it to HR.
How's that going?
Mental stress claims are increasing with workers taking longer to return to work after psychological harm.
We need to do something different, for things to change.
To prevent psychosocial hazards,
workers need to know HOW
It's all well and good to have policies and procedures, however as soon as the issue leaves the individual - the risk of harm increases.
Workers need to feel empowered to proactively prevent and manage conflict, incivility, gossip and bullying themselves. They need the tools to know what to do to deescalate issues and improve relationships.
This also allows managers, HR and WHS to work on the strategic aspect of their role, rather than dealing with complaints and constantly fighting fires.
Workers will learn:
The legislation
I provide an overview of the legislation including the WHS Framework, their rights and responsibilities, and the implications for them if they are not safe at work
Harmful behaviours
Workers will gain clarity on what harmful behaviours are, including incivility, the bullying continuum and the scale of aggression. Prevention starts with awareness
Toolkit
Workers develop a toolkit on how to proactively prevent harmful behaviours, including safe ways to deescalate situations, how to respond instead of react, and how to rebuild relationships after an incident
